My next offering to D&D homebrew was supposed to be the half-elf variant I’ve created, but I’m still working on getting a good balance between human, elf, and half-elf abilities. The half-elf variant started out as the result of a specific historical event in my homebrew campaign, so I’m also trying to strip out the specifics to make a version that can work in any campaign setting.
So instead of a race variant, this time I present an origin for the Sorcerer class: Fey Touched.
Sorcerous Origin – Fey Touched
I wanted to create a sorcerous origin that ties a little more explicitly to the Feywild and the fey. In the Player’s Handbook, the Wild Magic origin touches on that a little, but the effects are so varied and so random, and don’t necessarily nod to a faerie origin.
Fey creatures are generally charismatic, innately magical, and tied to nature. To that end, I tried to create an origin that would give a player and their character a connection to those aspects of the faerie heritage. I tried to ensure the abilities were balanced in comparison to the other sorcerous origins developed by Wizards of the Coast, and to scale the higher level abilities to suit the high tiers of play.
Feel free to play-test this sorcerous origin! If you do try it, please let me know how it goes for you in a comment…respectful feedback is greatly appreciated. As feedback comes in, I’ll tinker with this build so it’s the best it can be.
